I've noticed a problem with my display recently. I got on the computer one afternoon and had to do some work in Photoshop, so I brought the program up. As soon as it opened, I noticed that, one the dark gray program background, I could see some terrible white streaks and lines that, well...did not look right at ALL. I immediately rebooted, and the lines were still there. It was then that I noticed the lines fit perfectly with portions of the wallpaper I was using at the time. I figured I probably had a screen burn-in of some kind. But why now? Why not a week ago? I've had this wallpaper for weeks, and this is the first time the LCD showed signs of burn-in.
I decided to update my drivers and see if that would fix the problem if it turned out not to be burn-in. I got new drivers, and the problem was still there. I must mention, this has happened once before, about 6 months ago. I noticed this burn-in problem around the same time I was having PC troubles with my display not responding after being in sleep mode. I would open the laptop from sitting overnight and the display simply would not come back active. I would have to shut it down manually and then re-boot. After a while, it wouldn't even boot into Windows. I ended up formatting the comptuer, and that solved all of the problems--the burn in, the hanging after sleep mode, and the booting problem. Everything was great for about 5 or 6 months, and now the burn-in (if that's what it even is) is back. And guess what? This morning, I came to get on the laptop, and the display would not show up, so I had to restart. Luckily it restart this time, so best case scenario is I have a week or so before it craps out on me again and I have to format. I did a system restore to a point about 3 weeks ago before the problem showed up, but the burn-in is still there.
I took a few pictures to show exactly what it is I'm dealing with, and they can be seen attached.
If anyone has any information that can help me, I would sure appreciate it. I hate to think this will just lead to me formatting every 5 or 6 months, as that will become quite annoying. Thanks so much in advance.
EDIT: I forgot to mention a small detail. The "burn-in" does seem to fade after a few days. The circled area in the photos shows a vertical burn-in to the right that's "smudgy". That area started out as crisp as the bottom line, but over a few days it started blurring, and will eventually go away. There were a lot more lines than in the picture when I noticed the problem, but they have since disappeared. However, as soon as some lines vanish, others appear just as quickly, so they are never "gone" for good.

your lcd panel is stressed from the back ... mainly due to strain experienced by the panel if you pushed down on it too hard...
it happened to a friend on an hp zd8000 which he carried inside a bag that he stuffed with books....
you might try to RMA yours... and say it's been there all along but you haven't seen it ... anyway... it should not be there under normal circumtances... -
Hmm, I never thought about that.
However, my laptop has been stationary sitting on a desk, not moving, for the past month and a half. I don't think I've knocked it or bumped it with anything, either. Could it be stressed from anything else? I can't imagine what, though. -
Wow threads sure get bumped to the second page quick since the last time I posted here!

Dell is replacing screens on I9300's and other Notebooks that develop lines, though IIRC they were vertical lines. I got a letter on it from Dell, they say my screen is covered forever. LOL! Nice!
These kind of screens do not burn in. No phosphers.... -
JET,
Is there a way to check and see if my screen is covered? Will they send me the part and allow me to do the repair myself? I've done this before will Dell on my wireless card and a fan, so I would assume so.
Also, if you could link me to the request form/page for a screen I would appreciate it. Navigating the support site on Dell.com has driven me crazy since they made it next to impossible to find the parts request information page(s). Thanks a bunch.
