Hi, I bought my M1210 last September and have been using it with almost no problems at all, until last night. The blue media direct front-panel keys have stopped working. If I press any one of them, the keyboard and mouse get "locked" and cannot communicate with the computer. I can still move the mouse using the touchpad, but nothing happens when I try clicking on something. It seems the computer just ignores keyboard and mouse altogether. The only way out of this is to press and hold the power key to turn off the machine and re-boot.

Also, I've noticed that some keyboard keys still work after "lock-in". Pressing Ctrl+Alt+Del work, as does pressing the Windows key, the Fn to adjust brightness, the button to the built-in webcam as does the power key.

Interestingly enough, I've tried using the media direct keys in the Guest account and they work properly there! Same with the other user accounts (with less privilege). And to experiment, I formed a new user account with administrator privileges and I got the same problem again with the direct media keys.

My suspicion is that it is some faulty drive issue, but not sure what exactly to do or to deinstall and reinstall again. Any advice? Has anybody gone through this before? Any advice would be appreciated...

So I restored to an earlier restore date and the problem is gone now. Thanks! Now I hope that in the next reboot my pc won't jump back to the problematic restoration point. (It's the first time I've ever restored by the way). If it happens again I'll post it here. Otherwise, once again thanks!

That didn't do it. I've got an Inspiron 6400. This one's really stumped me.
