Well, I'm out and about on campus right now, sitting in a little cafe/restaurant here, and was browsing around on the Internet and listening to music. I decided to plug it in to conserve the battery... cause you never know when you're gonna need it. Well, I plugged the power brick into the wall, and then went to plug it into the M90... and the light went off and it started beeping. Yeah, you read that right... my power brick is beeping at me. I tried several times to unplug and replug (is that even a word?) it several times. But no luck. Everytime I plug it into the wall, it starts beeping at me again, and the light won't come on. It did this to me once last night, but I unplugged it and plugged it back in and it was fine. But no luck now.

So I talked to a rep at Dell chat. He was very helpful and asked if I could find someone else's power supply to use and make sure this was the problem, but I can't right now since as I said, I'm out and about. He's sending a replacement power brick that should be here tomorrow. Basically, I was wondering if anyone has had this problem, particularly those with an M90/M1710. It's kind of odd.

No, it was not the laptop. I'm serious. The power brick was literally beeping. I know this for two reasons: first being that it got louder when I put it up to my ear, and second, it only did it when it was plugged into the wall, but it didn't havet be plugged into the computer. Actually, the beeping got either louder or softer when I plugged it into the computer. It's very strange. Even the Dell guy said he had never heard of a PSU beeping either. It's the craziest thing.

Yes, it does do this on every outlet that I tried. Something was definitely wrong with it. I got my new one and it has been working fine. Funny thing though, they sent me the wrong power cord with the PSU. It's supposed to be a 3 prong triangular plug cord... instead this one has two prongs right next to each other. Didn't fit at all. Wierd. So I'm just using the old cord with the new PSU. It works fine. I guess I'll just send the wrong one back with the bad PSU.

My 6000's power brick did that. I plugged it into my into my surge protector. It beeped then the LED on the power brick went out. ROFL I flipped out trying to get it to work again. After giving it a rest I plugged it back in and it worked fine. But when I plugged it in after getting back from school the next day it did it again. It did this sporatically for a while and I finally had Dell replace it. Unfortunately the same surge protector fried my cell phone's charger so apparently there was something wrong there all along. I got a new surge protector and we'll see what happens.

Edit: I would sometimes get error messeges saying 'System does not recognize 65watt Dell power supply. Please plug in the correct power supply. To avoid damage your battery will not charge and your system will not run at full power.' or something like that.

Well, I never got any of those system errors. I'm assuming there is nothing wrong with my power strip because I've been using it for about a year or so with both my laptops and several other devices off and on such as cell phone and PSP chargers with no problems to any of them. I'm just happy that my new seems to work fine.

I had been using the same old power strip for years as well. Used my previous laptop with it and have had every charger in my posession hooked to it. Digital Camera, Ipod, Cellphones old, and new. My lamp was also plugged into it. It is probably worth noting that my ipod's charger and my digital camera's charger seem to work fine still. But I felt I didn't want to take the chance and got another one.
