    Hey guys ! I've got a bit of a really lame problem... and it really annoys me... I've got this old pc and I want to connect it thru LAN cable... But I've tried everything on both of my PC and Dell aswell... nothing seems to be working... I managed to make them send packets but none of em doesn't recieve any packets :S Ohhh and I've got on dell running windows Vista and on my PC win XP... Do u think that this got something to do with this problem ?! :S

    if your just putting a lan cable from 1 machine to the other then no wonder why it wont work, you need a router/hub !!

    why da hell do I need a hub !? when all I want to do is transfer some must have files and thats it :S anywayz had two PCS and I didn't use any hubs for internet sharing ... everything worked just fine :D just had to do some manual handling xDDD

    You don't need a hub, but make sure you're using a "Cross Connect" cable... A standard twisted pair won't work without a hub or switch ;).

    yes, you need a cross over cable not a standard cat 5 cable. else, you can use a hub and 2 regular cat 5 cables and the hub will automatically switch the pairs for you to turn it into essentially a cross over cable.
