Just got my new XPS M1210 from Dell Outlet 2 days ago, it was a "refurbished" unit. I loved it right away, great little notebook. I am having a problem though...

My 60GB 7200RPM Seagate ST96023AS hard drive seems to be constantly making a sound, like it is trying to access something. Is this a hard drive problem, a problem with something else which is trying to access the HDD, or is this normal?

It is very annoying, as the rest of the computer is silent and then every 2 seconds the HDD is making sounds even though I am not doing anything to access it. I tried seagate's online tool and it said nothing is wrong with the drive.

Please help me out, what should I do?

    Thanks

It might be a dying HDD. It can happen. Contact Dell about it. Your lappie should still be under warranty.

Back up your data now. When hard drives start clicking, clunking and making "new" noises, it usually means it's death is imminent.

Yah, sounds like a HDD needs replacing, regardless of what Customer Support will tell you. Don't risk it, call/contact Dell, tell them your sending the laptop back and you want another, better conditioned.
