I was having issues with a Sony dvd burner in my e1505 where it was having disc read errors during the data verificiation process in Nero, so Dell sent me the NEC ND-6650A, and this drive has more problems than the Sony, even if I leave it alone while burning and not multitask, It has disc read errors. I tired using a different brand of blank discs and even that wont make it work, however the DVD-Rs I bought made it work but the NEC cannot do DVD+Rs

The Sony burned fine except it would be more problematic if you were multitasking while burning DVD+Rs

Should I return the NEC drive and keep my Sony drive or vise verca?

Did you install the driver for it?

Personally, I would keep the NEC drive. I think it seems to be a better drive than the Sony drive - if we can just get yours to work.

Windows automatically put in teh driver, and I updated the firmware on the NEC drive. I think they sent me a refurbished NEC drive and thats why its not working properly.

This does make me VERY worried about Dell's warranty and support if the replacement part they send is worse than the drive its supposed to replace

It might be a problem with the drive. Hard to tell.

Did you run the info tool in Nero. I have the exact same drive, and haven't had any problems with burning DVDs.

I ran that and it had errors as well.

I think I am going to keep the sony drive and send back the NEC one, it seems like the issue with my sony drive wasnt really an issue, I just needed to test it and experiemtn with it a bit to see what works with it. And I can understand if multitasking while burning will cause it to mess up, thats something I can live with. But I cannot live with a drive that cannot burn a certain type of media at all
