Hey,
I recently installed Windows 7 on my studio 1555. I found a bug very irritating, I don't know what causes this.
Here is the way I noticed it:
- I setup my screen to shut down after 1 minute of inactivity.
- the mouse on the desktop (taskbar hidden) with no window opened, I let my screen shut down. After 5 minutes, I wake up my screen by moving the mouse.
- I can't take the control of my computer until 1 or two minutes as if my computer was working in background (the fans run a lot faster during this time)
Do you have the same problem? Does somebody know how to fix this problem?
Thanks
Bib

Which release of Windows 7?
I noticed the same with the release candidate and reported the issue to Microsoft. Sometimes it wouldn't come back on at all. -
with pre rtm.
-
hmm hopefully this will be fixed in RTM or in the first windows update...i haven't played around with windows 7 yet but i heard it's great. been holding out for the final release
-
I dont have the problem.
Build : 7600.16385.X86
Edit : Did not have in previous releases also..
(Had not tried RC) -
Im running 7229 and it works great. So I dont know what the issue could be. Just reformat and try another build. It's a beta, expect problems... especially since you're installing it on a system that wasnt necessarily built to run it out of the box. :]

Just as a heads up, if you're running the ATI Hd 4570 cards on Windows 7, make sure to download the most recent drivers from ATI. Windows Update has them too.
My computer wouldn't turn the screen on when resuming from sleep or hibernation, but the drivers fixed it. -
Downloading the driver direct from ATi doesn't do a damn thing; it's a Mobility Radeon card, and the regular Catalyst drivers don't work. And Mobility Modder doesn't support the ATi 4xxx series.

The drivers I've got straight from ATI are: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4500 Series. They seem to work perfectly for me. Fixed my problems.
Not to mention Windows 7 had the drivers built in. The problems only started after I installed the 4570 drivers from Dell (which I fixed by downloading ATI's drivers). -
When I tried to install ATi's own 4500 series driver, after the update it showed that I still had the same display driver as before, which dates back to November of 2008. Way to stay on the ball, Dell. :/

Yeah, Dell's driver has been perfectly reliable for me, but I just think I'm losing out on some performance, considering that the driver is from last year.

Good news! Mobility Modder now supports ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4xxx Series video cards. Grab it now!

I also installed Windows 7 on my Studio 15 and it seemed to find the drivers just fine.
Build 7100.
