guys, I got a 9100 and I cannot finish watching a single movie without the battery (fully loaded,12 cell) dies on me....

The Maximum battery setting is on, I am using earphones and the screen brightness is half way.

What else can I do to extend DVD playback time?

Running a movie off of the DVD drive will deplete the battery faster than just working on an office app. You may also want to set the power management setting to turn the HDD off after 1 minute so that it doesn't require power to keep the HDD going. I have also seen a utility on the web that will cache the contents of your CD/DVD onto the HDD so it runs off the HDD rather than the DVD Drive, therefore reducing power. I can't remember where I saw this, but just try searching on the web, you may be able to find it.
If all this doesn't help, it may just be the design of the notebook that is your limitation. This was designed to be a pure desktop replacement, so as what Run1track mentioned, it's not for mobility/battery life.

turn the brightness down further or shutdown any other programs that are running. keep in mind that the 9100 is not marketed as a unit with ultra mobility and battery life.

Or you could just manually copy the vob files to your hard drive and open them up as normal video files.

edit: also, make sure your wireless radio is shut off (although it probably is already), and disconnect any other connections (usb, parallel, ethernet). other than that, as you've read already, that's the best your notebook can do. there are probably additional batteries you can purchase, however, that would fit into the modular bay.
