On my E1505, there is no sound coming out from its speakers.
However, when i plug in external speakers, or earphones, the sound works perfectly.

    Are there any solutions?

My guess is that your speakers have gone out. If you are still under warranty, contact Dell and they will fix it. Most likely you'll need a new motherboard.

If you have the mail in warranty, I strongly suggest taking your HDD out of laptop and keeping it while it is being serviced.

Thanks for the input. So my motherboard is fried? This is bad news, because i need this computer for schoolwork, and cant afford to lose it for a whole week or more.

Might there be something else different that is wrong with it? I reinstalled drivers, and achieved nothing.

Check the advanced option in the volume controls (little speaker in the bottom right corner). There is an option in there that says something similar to "PCSkpr Mute", if it's checked, uncheck it. When its checked it only allows sound to go through headphones or external speakers. If nothing is plugged in to the headphone there is no sound. If it's already unchecked then something else is wrong.

Your motherboard is fine, but on most laptops, the hardware is somewhat built into the motherboard. If your headphone jack or ac power port goes out, the motherboard has to be replaced eventhough it is only that one particular hardware that has failed.

Since you are getting sound through your headphones, I honestly don't think it is a software problem. If you can't afford to lose your laptop for a week, then you can buy a set of portable speakers to use.

I'm having the same problem. I checked my speaker settings and everything is fine. It isn't muted or anything. This sucks.

I finally got it to work. After many restore points and undo restores i figured it out. I took my headphones and put it half way in the jack and wiggled it around (with a little bit of force) and the speakers started cutting in and out. then finally they came back on. I guess the comp thought i always had the headphones in the jack so it never came out the speaker

Found this site while searching for the same problem, couldn't get sound out of my speakers. This worked perfectly, apparently when I took out my headset it must have jiggled something in there. I started playing an mp3 while jiggling the jack with an iPod headset here at work and it popped back on. Crappy dell construction. Sorry if I'm digging this up from the grave, but wanted to confirm this "technique" in case it happens to someone else.

This technique works. I wouldn't have believed it had I not tried it. Apparently some other forums are saying it has to do with the poor "spring leaf" construction that Dell has with its audio jack.

Yeah your correct on these, there is somewhat like a spring inside that is the culprit for this problems... thats why when customers call dell they basically replace the mobo bec the port is damage....

I have had the same problem (for the second time) on my Inspiron 9300. Anyone have more details on this? Dell keeps replacing the motherboard, but this is not a long term solution. What are the other forums where this is mentioned? Thanks.
