Hey I received my Studio in december. About a 2months later the fan started to make this grinding noise. Its like a piece of paper hitting against the fins of the fan noise. I know its defineitally the fan because i open up my computer while the noise was on and I stop the fan and guess what no noise so its the fan. I dont want to send this computer in because if i end up sending back to dell they are gonna scratch it. So please share comments and tryto help me out. Sorry for the typing mistakes, iam in a rush.

    Thanks,
    Mike

Use the Dell online chat with tech support, and tell them the issue. They should send a technician to your house in a week or so to replace the heatsink/fan unit. And even if you do send your laptop in to the depot for repair, they shouldn't scratch it. And if they do, you have every right to file a complaint.

Alternatively, if you're comfortable spending a bit of money and doing the repair yourself, you can buy a fan from a parts reseller and replace it on your own.

Either your fan was a lemon from the start, or something (possibly hair) got caught in the fan motor.

I have a fan lying around from my studio 15 that didn't sell on ebay. If you are comfortable replacing it by yourself I will gladly send it to you for free.

Okay john, like in order to take the fan out, do you have to take off the cpu heatsink. Cause I really not too familar with that and maybe i will be intrested.
