    Hey, Guys.

I installed Vista on my 6400 last night. It went fine, but this morning I could not boot. I was getting a blue screen saying there was problem and to avoid damage it would not boot, then it would reboot to the options for safe mode etc.

Now, I had the RTM version for a bit to try out and worked great for trial period. Now, I have the OEM version I just purchased. The only thing I did different was intall the drivers from dell assuming they would be better/ more up-to-date then Vista's. I'm guessing installing one of those drivers created a problem (I flashed the bios from 12 to 13 as well).

So, that said, what drivers, if any, do we need directly from Dell???? Everything worked fine after a clean install...so I'm wondering if we even need Dell's drivers. I am either going to do a system restore or reinstall.

    Thanks!
    Shane

Note : XP drivers are NOT compatible with Vista.
I think ATI drivers for Vista are already out.Install them.As for the other devices, I don't know.Better to stick with the default drivers for now.

Well, the drivers were for Vista that I downloaded.

As I said, I don't know which one(s) caused the problem. I am assuming it was the drivers, though...although, after I installed the drivers last night and rebooted, it worked...it was this morning it would not boot...so I don't know.

    Thanks :)

I'm not sure what the problem was. I looked at the error logs etc and there were quite a few listings...most of them service related "unable to start..." etc.

Anyway, rather than spend my night trouble shooting, I just did a system restore back to the moment I first booted into Vista.

So, the only thing I've downloaded from Dell is the touchpad driver, and I'll get the x1400 driver as well.

I would still like other's opinions on wheather we need Dell's drivers or not...
