Hi there everyone. I've had my 9300 for 8 months now. I've reinstalled the OS once recently (just over a month ago) and everything has been exceptionally peachy until 2 days ago. I try to turn on the computer and it brings up the Dell screen and then goes to a black screen with a cursor blinking at the top left and then proceeds to do nothing. I don't have a CD in the drive or any removeable drives connected. I didn't install any software before this happening. The strange thing is when I hit F2 or f12 or something to bring up the system setup, I can exit that and the computer will then boot normally. Needless to say, this is very annoying and I'm not sure what would have caused it. Can you please provide some suggestions as to what might be the cause of this?

In your BIOS (F2 at startup for most notebooks), look for the "Load Setup Defaults" option, and then exit the BIOS, saving changes. If that doesn't help, then look for a BIOS upgrade for your notebook.

It sounds like your BIOS as Chaz stated - check Dell's site to see if there are any BIOS updates for the I9300. I know Dell just issued one for the E1705/I9400 recently.

Dell hasn't updated the 9300 BIOS since 10/2005, but it still would be good to reflash it. It might have gotten damage somehow and is causing problems.

Does this happen everytime you boot up? or if you are coming out of standby/hibernation?

It happened every time I boot. I went and re-flashed the bios and BINGO, that was the ticket. Now it boots up right. Whew.

Thanks much everyone! Notebookreview has yet to let me down.
