    Hey!

First of all i apologize for my bad english... i'm german .
i'm new to this forum and got problems with my Dell bluetooth 370 card.
i somehow managed to software disable my bluetooth card before completely formatting my HDD.

now after installing windows 7 i'm desperately trying to install the bluetooth drivers. no success. it always says "Press fn+f2 to aktivate bluetooth" but that won't work. the hardware switch is ON and i tried a few other things like resetting the bios to factory settings, removing bluetoothcard and installing windows 7 without it (reinstalled it afterwards).

i also tried this file http://support.euro.dell.com/support...&fileid=213714 (R159805) but it won't work for my bluetoothcard saying "no capable devices found".

    I need your help!

    regards,

    Alex

So are you able to install drivers?

You may also need to install some software.

    thanks for answering me!

i can not istall any drivers because it always says "press fn+f2 to aktivate bluetooth" but i cannot activate bluetooth. so installation of drivers does not work.
the hardware switch is also without function for bluetooth (wlan can be switched off and on) even though the bios settings are correct imo.

    i appreciate any help!

    regards.

    Can you manually install them?

In device manager, update the driver but select "Install from a list or specific location". Then choose "don't search", then "have disk" and browse for the *.inf file.

Hopefully you will be able to force the installation, and ignore any errors.

i can force windows 7 to install drivers BUT it still says "device cannot be started (code 10)" only the name in device manager is changing from "generic bluetooth device" to "dell bluetooth 370 ..."

    any other idea?
i dont want to buy a new bluetooth card just because i forgot to software-activate bluetooth before installation of windows 7.

    regards

Can you try installing the "toshiba bluetooth stack" software?

I know your notebook is not toshiba, but some users have reported that it works with other notebooks.

I can give you a link if you need it.

Try pressing F2 (not with the fn key) and see if that will activate your Bluetooth.

What driver have you been trying to install? Can you throw us a link to it? I used the Vista 64-bit drivers for the Bluetooth 370 card and everything worked fine. During installation of this driver, it will install new firmware onto the card, but the card should operate like a normal device if you install a different operating system.

Also, you may need to double check that you have the wireless switch setup to manage your bluetooth connection in the BIOS.

ok .. my reply to the last 3 posts:

    1: pressing only f2 -> no avail
2: http://support.euro.dell.com/suppor...-1&impid=-1&formatcnt=1&libid=5&fileid=307416 <- this is the driver i used (and tried others too) but it always says "press fn+f2...." during install.
3: i checked that. many many times :(

other things i have been trying meanwhile. reinstalling vista from recovery partition ... same effect. installing 32-bit windows 7 ... same effect. resetting bios by software... same effect. resetting bios by hardware (removal of battery for 15 minutes?) ... same effect.

i just ordered a new bluetoothcard hoping it will work with a complete new card. i think this is a real problem. my support expired otherwise i would ask DELL (because its their fault).

they even know the problem (see other posts concerning bluetooth 350 to 360) and released a patch witch activates the bluetooth when it has been deactivated by software before reinstall. but there is no patch for bluetooth 370 module to cause the same effect.

i also read some linux (ubunutu) forums where useres are having the exact same problem with bluetoothcards from dell, but only solutions for cards 350 to 360 are available.

i wish this had happened to me during support period... but it didnt :(

    unlucky me

thanks for all the answers maybe you come up with a solution

    best regards...

    alex

Maybe you should "hot plug" the card, then tell windows to scan for new devices.

i think this could do serious damage to my notebook... prove me wrong.

its not a usb device or a pcmcia card. its a mini pci card ... i dont like the idea of hot-plugging a mini-pci card ...

    Ok don't hot plug.

But the bluetooth is most likely using only the USB port pins of the miniPCIe card slot.

if you where sure that the bluetooth 370 adapter used USB only and hot-plugging wasnt a danger for my notebook i would try it with hot plugging while the "press fn+f2" message is shown.

i dont want to destroy my system :)

regards and thank you very much for your help

    I am not too sure.
You are right, better not to risk it.

Can you email dell and ask for a solution?
They should help you even if you don't have warrenty.
Maybe they wont, but this is a software issue so it shouldn't be too hard for them.
