I've had a Dell Vostro 1500 for a couple months now, and I have two problems with it:

First, the screen/lid assembly moves freely about 5/8 of an inch before the hinges catch. The screen wobbles a bit when I type. Is there any way to tighten up the hinges without having to send it in to Dell?

Second, I notice a quiet high-pitched whine from my computer whenever the CPU steps down to a lower frequency - either 1200 or 1600 MHz according to CPU-Z. Is this normal behavior? Interestingly enough, I don't notice this under Ubuntu Linux, which apparently lowers the speed down to 800 MHz. (I'm also wondering why Windows doesn't bring the CPU down that low.)

Does anyone else experience these problems?

Aside from that, I wish Dell would offer more support for those running Windows Vista x64, and more frequent driver updates for video cards. They've removed all x64 downloads for the Vostro 1500 on their support site, but fortunately I've been able to find all the drivers I need: a driver from HP gives me functionality for the Ricoh Memory Stick/MMC/PictureCard, and I'm using a driver package for the Latitude D830 which contain 64-bit drivers for the NVidia 8400M GS and 8600M GT with the drivers for the Latitude's Quadro NVS 135M/140M).

The hinge, you cant fix it unless you get a new screen.

the high pitched whine is in all laptops with a core 2 duo. use rmclock or live with it.
