I have a new dell studio 17 and the sound on the laptop is really low and also when I can hear it its always really distorted and crackles all the time and basically I am unable to do anything from listen to music to playing games can anyone help me with this? I have tried to have a look at all the settings but you know what its like I am no pc guru and I worry that I might muck it up more than it already is as I do not really know what I am looking for!
help and information would be great (for dummies please!!)

    Thanks  :p

Have you tried using a pair of headphones? Is the output there ok?

Then second of all, have you looked at your volume settings? Maybe they need to be turned down a tad. Also, are you using an equalizer? Is the bass all cranked up?

I have checked the volume its right up and there is still hardly any sound at all. sadly I do not have any headphones so I cannot check this at all. Also yes there does seem to be an application called IDT Audio control panel which does have a equalizer on it I have turned the bass down but sadly does not change either the volume or the crackling any further ideas would be great!!

    thank you

I have the crackling developed in my Inspiron 1720 after about 11 months since I purchased it. Volume is fine, just crackling, and it dissappears from time to time. Very pessimistic about overall quality of the machine. Do not even want to start calling support.
