    I'm confused about my processor. Under System and my invoices it says it is a t2500 but I thought they only sold the t7200 for 2ghz. Did I get duped somehow?

    T2500 = Core Duo
    T7200 = Core2Duo

    The T7200 is a Core 2 Duo CPU and that means its 64 bit. So right now, there would really be no reason to upgrade, but in the future with Vista and stuff, It would be worth it. Core 2 Duo's are also slightly faster 10% or so per clock.

    Thank you for that link, I talked to someone on chat and they said

    "Dell does not offer processor or motherboard upgrades for purchase as discreet items, nor does Dell recommend upgrading the processor or motherboard in any given system; therefore, Dell cannot support systems in which the motherboard or processor has been upgraded through third-party services or products."

    Good to know that they have disputed themselves again.

    Do any of you know what would be the best way to go about upgrading the processor? Are there stores that would do it? Dell won't do it right? Or far less preferably, a service to ship the notebook to do it?

    Seems Dell will support your system, but only if you change the processor back to the one they shipped... I think they are required by law...

    Anyway, the processor upgrade is not that hard, and Dell documents it:

    http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/ins9400/en/sm/cpu.htm#wp1084976

    A small amount of thermal paste (AS5) does help, too.

    Do you think I could get any money for the old one? I'm going to call Dell to see if they will take the old one and I can pay the difference or something of the sort. There is little chance I'll upgrade if I have to pay over $100.

    I found a great article about the differences http://www.anandtech.com/cpuchipsets/showdoc.aspx?i=2808

    Seems like there isn't performance increase of over 15% ever but I'm going to look into it more. It would also be nice to have the 64 bit. I was reading about the new class, Santa Rosa, set for release in April and it won't fit with the current chipset so I might as well upgrade.

    I wouldn't mess with it.

    If you had a 1.83GHz Core Duo and where going to drop in a 2.33GHz Core 2 Duo, it might be worth it, but, you just are not even going to "see" the 10% unless you just render stuff all day long.
