all i no is that if i use a g card its 54mbps, assuming a n card gives you 300 mbps, in theory, i figure ill max out at 100 mbps based on my isp w/ a n card. am I right or wrong?
-
Your right, but that 100mbps is only the speed for your LAN (Local Area Network) not the internet speed.
-
just wondering, with that fast internet speed. i would think a G will hold it back and not give the full potential of your cable speed, while N will fully utilize it. Not sure, thats what i would think.
Amazing how this thread went from CPU speed to RAM and RAM speed to Wireless speed. -
thats wat im guessing, cuz my lan is double the speed of the wlan, i think a n would make up the difference.

is this good memory? -
Wireless G can handle up to 19mbps internet speeds:

The RAM I recommend is:

hmm, but would n reduce interference, my g gets interference if i turn a certain light on, or a certain household appliance. (My microwave use to shutdown my wireless b.)
-
thanxs for the ram recommendation.

Use that link, the one you selected is for desktops, not laptops.
-
yea ill buy from the link he gave me cuz it had the check mark saying its compatible plus its $8 cheaper.
desktop heh, wow thats a bad sign lol. The size indicates its desktop right? -
Wow, I just ran the speed test for the first time in a while and it reported back a 13.5 meg download rate and a 2.5 meg upload rate. Pretty good........
-
Desktop is 240-pin and Laptop is 200-pin. but yeah, basically, bigger is desktop and small is laptop

ahl 2.0ghz and a 1280x800 screen or 1.6ghz and a 1440x900 screen, (email, web, music, aim). But everyone else said 1.6 would be the same as 2.0 based on my needs, wat do u think?
-
hey stx273,
sorry for the late post but just want to give you a real-world perspective:
a toshiba w/ 1.6 T2050 core duo w/ 1.5gb ram WinXP:
open taskmanger>open process tab>click on mem usage tab twice, and the result is a 1/4 sec delay in displaying new info (that is from sort max to sort min).
a dell 1520 w/ 1.66 T5450 core 2 duo w/ 2gb ram Vista prem.:
same task but this time no delay.
and my toshiba is 2yrs old and is still great for basic computing and ran halo very smoothly, and it will last to 2014, end date of winXP support.
so 1.66 c2d IS more than enough for you.
as matter of fact, I just won a bid of the T5450 from ebay for $49
for my barebone MSI 1221, 12.1".
-
lol I guess I'm getting a little crazy about it, If my old $400 dollar laptop can run programs fairly smoothly, then a 1.6 can 2, thanks for all the help I'm about to place my order.
-
also, if you have a few hours to waste, I suggest you to get the lowest HDD offered so that you could use the savings ($100) to buy a slightly faster and better and quieter HDD and use your laptop hdd as a portable drive instead.
that's almost a 2-for-1 deal...... -
thats a good idea, thanxs
-
good luck...
-
A 1.6Ghz and the 1440x900 screen in my opinion. the res depends on what you like though. I like small contents on the screen, but with 1280x800, the contents will appear bigger, which some people like. I like 1440x900 because is kinda "makes the screen look bigger". At least to me.
-
thxs again

No Problem - My pleasure
