After dell giving me the wrong processor, I called them up and told them that they gave me the wrong one they said, "Sorry we can not exchange the processor unless something is wrong with your current one" But now my processor only works at the speed of 980 Mhz. I checked my bios and speedstep is off. So now my processor is not working the speed it should. Should I contact dell and say that something is wrong or should I update my bios. Thanks in advance

The notebook is set to maximum performance.

The only time I see the speed rev up, outside of gaming since I don't see the toolbar, is when I run a complex process on Photoshop or render a slideshow.

I photoshop and its speed is still slow at 980 Mhz should I call dell.

Hi,
speedstep off means processor always at 980mhz. I thought it was the opposite, but reading carefully in the BIOS I understood.
So, turn speedstep on, and then play with the power options if you want it to be permanently @ max speed or have it accelerating when needed.
Cheers. -
speedstep can actually reach around 100mhz, it is constantly adjusting cpu speed. What ever your using to read cpu speed isnt capable of reading it properly is all. Everyones duo cpu reads 998mhz in that case.

how do you turn speedstep on?
