I ordered my laptop on 9/8/06, it went into production 9/11/06 and the ship date is estimated at 9/29/06...add on shipping time and it will take about a month to get my laptop! That is insane. I'm not that patient...
Is anyone else seeing similar time frames for this?
I'm thinking about calling up customer service and telling them that if they don't get it to me sooner, I'm going to cancel my order - Will that get me anywhere?
The specs are as follows (is it a certain part that is holding it up?)
Dell E1505 w/
Core 2 Duo 2.0 Ghz
1 GB RAM
80 GB SATA HDD
256 MB ATI x1400 GPU
8x CD / DVD Burner
Intel 3495 Wireless card with Bluetooth
...and then all the other typical stuff...
Thanks for your thoughts,
Mike

When you ordered with Core 2 Duo it clearly said that it may delay your order. You took that risk when you ordered under such conditions. Also, often times Dell's projections are very liberal to allow for mishaps in shipping. Originally I ordered on the 7th, and it said at first the 22nd was my projected arrival. Well, UPS has a tracking number saying it'll be here the 13th. 6 day turn around and I just used the free 3-5 day UPS.

Yes, i understand that it told me it would be delayed with the C2D, but it gave an estimated time of 4 days. 3 weeks just seems crazy. I'm just excited to get it, so I'm impatient.
But I appreciate your input. It's nice to know others have gotten theirs ahead of schedule.
Thanks. -
I'm still waiting on my Core 2 Duo. Hopefully it happens before the end of the month, but I'm not holding my breath too much.

i ordered mine on the 8th and it shipped today!!
estimated date was 9/22 -
I got the 9400 (e1705) last week. It took exactly 1 week plus 1 day from order to door.
I picked the plain old CD because of the delivery time, and the fact it would cost me $300 more. ($300 CDN).
And people trying to convince me it doesn't cost $300 more - please - been there, done that. It *SO* costs $300 more *IF* you look beyond what you see on the web site. There are other deals that are (were, 2 weeks ago in Canada) only offered with the CD.
(ps. my appologies for sounding harsh - I'm upset at the people that are about to reply with a stupid message like "it's only $57 more" - I've spend exhuberant amounts of time trying to convince them otherwise - and it went on deaf ears - they STILL didn't get it).
Anywho. The C2D takes longer. The thing that Dell is lying about, I think, is the way they indicate the stages. When you click on the 4 stages, they'll explain what it all means. What they do wrong is they pretend it is in production. It's kind of a box with all the parts in it, and they person on the assembly line just has to slap it all together and such. But what's really happening, I think, it's NOT yet in production, and they're waiting on the Intel C2D shipment to come in.
I chose to upgrade later, next year or so. C2D is pin compatible and works and replaces the CD seamlessly like magic.
I the *BIG* CD incentives are gone now. I'm *still* seeing price differences, but right now, Dell's prices *all* look up. It's funny about Dell pricing. When you *think* the price 'd be up because of price and demand (eg. late august), the prices are actually higher in september *after* all the students start their school. Perhaps this time around its a combination between people procrestinating and the C2D just coming out.
I know the wait is painful, agonizing, nervewrecking, etc... all the best to ya. -
the only way the core 2 duo would cost $300+ more than the core duo is if you take into account the discounted warranty prices of the packaged deals...which in reality isn't that good of a deal, since you'll be forced to spend more money for a longer warranty that in my opinon is a waste of money. i guess if you needed a longer warranty the regular core duo might appear to be $300 off.

i jsut ordered my core 2 duo on sunday night, and its in the last stage of production which is boxing, so it should hopefully go out tomorrow.

i ordered
C2D 2.0ghx
2gb 533 ram
x1400
120gb 5400rpm HD
etc.. on sept 7, and it won't get here till sept 25
so that totally suck
it's been stuck in "In production" for 3 days now -
Umm you guys need to realise the "Estimated Ship Date" is actually the estimate of when the laptop is actually dropped at your door step.
-
Talked to the customer rep, and she told me that the estimated ship date is accurate, and thats when i should expect it to be shipped from the WAREHOUSE. She was shocked at the near 1 month delay too. Said something about a 5 day backorder on C2D chips notice on her screen.
I tried to get something for compensation for the ridiculous long wait, and she said to talk to my sales, but he has not yet responded, probably doesn't want to. I'll have to call them up if my ESD gets moved, AGAIN. -
standard 3-5 shipping too.
sweet. -
Just hold out, and you *WILL* be a happy new laptop owner once it finally arrives. What to do in the meantime? Put up with your old machine, or go see a movie, or go the bar and meet some girls. (why do we have computers again..?) -

I ordered the same one ....I order it on 09/10/06...and gave me estimated time of 09/19/06...10 days ...and delivery of 09/23/06...but You have 1 month which is insane ......I guess you have to be Patient
-
I think you guys just said the same thing.
YES that date is the estimated day it will show up at your door. This is a known fact.....
there it's been said 3 times now -
i just noticed that mine has moved into boxing...but it still has the estimated date of sept. 29th...that can't be right. can it really be in boxing / ship prep for the next 16 days?
there is something wrong at Dell if that is correct - because if it is actually in boxing, it can't be the C2D delaying it anymore. -
Mine went to shipping either late late Friday, or Saturday for real, but the website site kept saying it was in production until Wednesday morning, when it told me the Purolator login info, which indicated they received it Saturday. It was over the labour day long weekend, but still, with Tuesday being an ordinary work day. It arrived that Thursday, one day ahead of the initial delivery estimate.
Dell clearly is not indicating those 4 steps accurately. All in all, it's not interfering with their overal performance, but it just leaves you in anticipation anxiety... Maybe this makes you more exstatic once it arrives... ;-) -
ship date is the date which they(Dell) hand over your package to UPS.
delivery date is the date you get your package from UPS.
i ordered 2007WFP monitor and E1405 with C2D 2Ghz on 9/11.
the estimated 'ship' date was 9/20.
it was shipped 9/13 and the ups track says i will get it by 9/15 friday
i have seen so many people getting frustrated with their order
but it turned out to be fine for me so far.
even though my order has already been shipped, its estimate ship date is still 9/20.
Production / Delivery Time!!!
