Is anyone aware of Dell experiencing production delays? I helped a friend order an i1300 three days ago for her sons birthday. As of today it is still in pre-production. Usually when I order from Dell it goes into production right away. Last year I ordered an i6000 and it was in pre-production for almost a 10 days. After numerous calls with customer care I ended up cancelling and re-ordering. They never could get the order to go into production. It was so exasperating. I'm afraid the same thing is happening here. Has anyone placed an order recently? Just curious.

Sometimes it can be held because of back order parts. You might suggest to your friend to call Dell just to be on the safe side. Mine was held in one of the phases (think it was pre-prod) because my Credit Card number was not authorize, and dell never told me. I found it out when I called them, and once the problem was corrected, it went into production immediately.

as SG says, it's usually when a certain component comes into shortage that this happens -- for instance if you configured with a 40GB HD and they run out of 40GB hard drives and have only 60GB ones left, well the people with 60GB configs get their notebooks on time but you don't.
