Does anyone know any popular programs that I can use to test the stability of my laptop? I know Dell tested the system when it was built, but since I reformatted and reinstalled WinXP myself, I'd like to "burn" the computer myself just to make sure the newly freshed installed operating system is running properly. Thanks.

I suppose SuperPI is a good program to run if you let it go the maximum length. It'll push your computer pretty hard... That's all I can really think of...
-
I thought Super PI only tests the CPU performance, what I really want to do is to run some applications repeatedly and automatically for like 4-6 hrs non-stop to see if the computer can handle the tasks smoothly without freezes or any error messages. I heard computer manufacturers used the same method to make sure the computers run stable before shipping.

I think there is an option to let SuperPI calculate indefinitely, which gives your computer an excellent workout if you leave it on overnight...

I'm sorry, I completely messed up programs. Prime95 is the program I'm thinking of. It's main objective is to stress the CPU and RAM. There are programs out there that will stress other components, but I couldn't find any free ones...

"Sandra", perhaps, a good suite of tests?

Thanks for the info.

I would also download the Ultimate Boot CD at http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/ and run MemTest86+ for a good 12 hours or so. Good for spoting bad or flakey memory. Not to mention the other stuff on the CD is pretty useful too.

Is it ok to leave my computer running for 12 straight hrs, just a little concerned.
-
I dont see why not, I leave my notebook at least 12 hrs durring the daytime.

What about stressing the GPU -- any programs for that?
