Hi, first time poster here. Im wondering are there any MAJOR cons the 9100 has towards any other Dell laptops? Im probobly going to buy one, and this will be my first laptop, and I dont want to make a major mistake :)

Im probobly going to use it for some games, such as Halo PC or World of Warcraft, when its plugged in, but on the road when I use it for word proc. battery life may be an issue.

Any display issues using games with the 128 MB Radeon 9700 ?

The specs im getting with it are:

    ntel® Pentium® 4 w/ HT Technology 2.8GHz, 15.4-in. WXGA
    512MB DDR 400MHz 2 DIMMs
    128MB DDR ATI's MOBILITY™ RADEON™ 9700 AGP 8X Graphics
24X CD-RW/DVD Combo Drive with Sonic RecordNow
    40GB Hard Drive
Main Battery: 96 WHr 12-cell Primary Battery with Subwoofer
Dell TrueMobile 2300 (802.11b/g) Wireless Router with 1Yr Adv Exchange

Any upgrades I should get on it?

I just purchased a high end Inpiron 9100. The only con is that it's big, and so is the power supply. Now I don't travel with it much, and a rolling case from Circuit City on for $49 took care of that issue. I would recommend that you upgrade to a WSXGA screen from the standard WXGA screen. I went for the WUXGA screen myself, but I like a lot of screen real estate and prefer smaller icons.

If you're getting the wireless router, make sure you've added the dell wireless 802b/g option. It is not standard on some configurations. You might want to consider upgrading to the DVD+RW option. DVD for storage are becoming a must and it gives you many more options for backing up files.

Depending on what you plan to use the 9100 for, you might want to consider upgrading to a larger drive, 60, 60 7200 RPM and 80 GB drives are available. I opted for a 60GB 7200 RPM drive because it can increase the performance. So far Dell is the only company offering 7200 RPM drives or DDR 400 memory. Both of which make the 9100 a performer.

I've had mine a week and like it a lot.
