Im thinking about purchasing a 13.3" notebook for portability, and Im considering the 1318 since the price has gone down considerably. My question is if the intel X3100 graphics is able to handle things like viewing HD youtube video in fullscreen and watch DVD's?

Short answer, yes. The X3100 doesn't really have terribly good offloading capabilities, but all the tasks you mentioned should run fine on a moderately fast CPU. Just don't get something like a single-core Celeron...

alright thanks, Im deciding between this model and the upcoming inspiron 13 model whenever they decide to release it worldwide. Aside from the typical web browsing, email, word processing, I would like it to have good battery life and as well be able to view Hi-def videos.

Take a look at the Dell Vostro 1320, if you haven't already- LINK

It is based on the newer Intel platform (including the 4500MHD integrated graphics).

Actually, one of the new CULV notebooks (such as Inspiron 11z, or Acer Timeline series) would be a great battery life/performance balance....just a thought...

I have had my inspiron 13 for over a year with not a single issue. Quality I have zero complaints on especially for the price.

I think it actually looks nice compared to the other ones.

As mentioned above, we have a few vostro 1320s at work and they really do not compare at all. If anything those things look FUGLY
