I've only had experiences with HP laptops and they weren't pleasant so I'm looking at several laptops over the last few month. I'm close to pulling the trigger on the XPS M1330 I'm a bit worried about some things:

    - Should I purchase a Dell extended warranty? Like the 3 year return to depot service or 3 year with complete care? Did anyone actually use their warranty (complete care)? Or would my 1 year extended warranty on my credit card suffice?

    - Do all the Intel processors of the "CPU whine" and how loud is it? Also, is the T5450 have the CPU whine?

I think all CPU's (AMD and Intel) make a certain amount of noise. My CPU makes a little whining noise but it's barely perceptible. The new motherboard for the XPS m1330 have reduced the CPU whine a lot. I have a revision A07 mobo.

As for extended warranty: I recommend at least 2 years. My old Fujitsu notebook broke down one year + a few days after purchase. Luckily it came with a two year warranty and I got a full refund.

In Canada we have limited options with our warranties. I would love to buy a two year but sadly we don't have the option.

Would purchasing the 3 year return to depot service ($150 Canadian) be a good choice or just buy the 3 year w/ complete care ($299 Canadian)?

I think Complete Care is invaluable! A couple months ago I had an XPS m1210 replaced with a new m1330.

Not only does it give you the peace of mind knowing that your laptop is safe from accidents, sometimes you get lucky enough to be upgraded as well.

I have had my 1330 for a month and yesterday I pulled the trigger on Complete Care.

For .09 cents a day, how can you go wrong?

How were you able to update to Complete Care?

I had mine since 8-07. This past February mine experienced the Motherboard-heating-vertical lines problem. When I was looking into warranty services on the Dell website, after I put in my Service Tag code, I saw that I was able to upgrade my warranty to Complete Care, but I chose not to then. Dell replaced my mother board with the A07 one and things are working fine now. But when I wanted to purchase the Complete Care option for peace of mind, it's not there anymore. I called Dell and the sales person told me that Dell does not upgrade to Complete Care after the "Point of Sales."

    In two words: get it!!

Complete Care, as others have mentioned, is a valuable addition to your warranty coverage. Its approximately 100 dollars more than the NBD onsite warranty, and I think its well worth it. I am not sure how it works in Canada, but in the US, the difference between 3 and 4 year NBD Onsite for m1330 is approximately 80 USD and you get a 70 USD Dell Gift Card. I think for the additional 10 dollars, it is well worth it to go for the 4 year warranty. The completecare cost is the same regardless if you go with 3 or 4 year warranty (difference between NDB onsite and the respected complete care coverage).

    Good Luck!

You're seeing right but he's confused about what his revision actually is. He's probably quoting the bios version.

Yes you can. If you upgrade after your initial 21 days of purchase, you will actually end up paying more for the completecare upgrade.

That was what I thought. Two months ago the Dell website gave me the option to upgrade to Complete Care. I only have the 3-year on site for now. But when I went back to it today, the option is no longer there. I called Dell, and a guy to me Dell doesn't sell Complete Care after the "point of sale." I told him I saw the option to upgrade when I logged in two months ago. He said that you could never purchased the Complete Care if you didn't do it during the purchase, because then people would just purchase it after they break their laptop. And when I logged back on to Dell, the option to upgrade is no longer there. My hinge broke, when I was trying to close the LCD screen, it must have pulled off one of the wires because the LCD just went black. I hope the warranty will fix this, but I wanted to upgrade to Complete Care just to be sure and for future protection, but the sales rep said I couldn't. Is he wrong?

You have a 30 day window from the time of your purchase to add the Complete Care. I called within the 30 day window and got the CC for $99.

I played a little bit dumb when I called and asked for the CC for $99. "Forgot to add the CC but I remember the option to add it was $99 can I please add it now?"

Outside the 30 days from purchase I think you are SOL.

I am pretty sure you can add it outside the 30 days because I did this on an older Inspiron 8600 system 3 years after purchase (i.e. paid to extend for another 2 years with complete care). It did cost a lot more money though.

Dam they should give a 1, 2, 3 or 4 year Complete care option for Canadians. And if you have the complete care you should be able to extend it before it expires. It would make it affordable. since it adds a extra $300 because all you can do is get 3 or 4 year.

It makes zero sense for dell to offer complete care after you've had the system over a month or so, why would they? You are looking to specifically purchase it right now b/c you aren't sure the warranty covers what you broke, ummmmm don't you think everyone would just do that when something breaks? The only reasonable compromise would be having a tech come to your house and inspecting the computer before they offer you CC.

They better cover the hinge. It broke because of a defect, not because of something I did besides normal operating procedure like the lifting open the screen to power up the laptop. I just wanted to purchase the Complete Care because it seems like the built quality of my XPS M1330 is like $hit.

    Valerius/Canadian Consumers,

Have you tried contacting a sales rep regarding 1/2 year Complete Care options? These may not be available on the website, but a sales rep might be able to configure your system with these options. Second option - buy the system with a 1 year warranty, and once you recieve it, call the warranty extensions department and upgrade.

I only got 1 year complete care when i purchased the laptop, but I extended it on the last day before my warranty expires..
it cost me 399cdn to extend my CC for another 2 years
Dont make the same mistake... get it when u buy ur laptop

I used the complete care service and I am happy with it
I dropped my 9400 last month
crack the case and lcd wasn't working
other than that, everything works fine, i could plug it to an external monitor etc

So I called dell to report the damage and letting them know my situation,
I was only 3 weeks from finishing college and most of my class requires my laptop..

the CSR only asked me to take a picture of the damage laptop and screen and gave me a return number.
The shipping box arrive the next day and I sent my laptop out right away, I got my laptop back within 48hours.

They gave me a new charger, keyboard, motherboard, screen, case, hinges and touch pad...
    I thought it was new...
however, I do notice a problem, the case they gave me have no rear vent for my 7900gs..

I was amazed by how fast they repair it..\

took my friend 3 weeks to get his laptop back from toshisba when he had a faulty dvd drive

You do not lose your Complete Care after you use it, nor can you only use it once.

Why would you buy a 3 or 4 year Complete Care contract if you could only use it once? Rubbish!
