I mainly do CAD, SolidWorks typs stuff.

Have any of you heard if a Quadro FX GO 1400 video card can be purchased and then placed in a Dell 9300?

I would take out the Go 6800 that the 9300 came with and put the FX GO 1400 in its place.

    Will it work?

    Thanks!!

Having taken apart my I9300 and voided my warranty on so many different levels (shhhh what they don't know won't hurt'em! lol), I'd say yes you can probably do it! I'm not sure what the shape of the Go1400 is going to be, but pretty good chance that it will take, as the Go1400 is nothing more than a Go6800 optimized for OpenGL work anyway. Of course this will DEFINITELY void your warranty... lol

There *might* be a way to softmod your Go6800 into a Go1400, or a relatively simple hard-mod. Essentially there's no difference hardware wise between the Go6800 and the Go1400, it's just the drivers have been specifically tuned to flag the gpu one way or the other. Performance-wise the 6800 is actually going to be faster on most stuff, just that the OpenGL driver isn't as complete as what's available to the Go1400.

    cheers,

    yass

P.S. the chance of Dell selling you a Go1400 separately is pretty much nil. I think i've seen some parts reseller selling the Go1400s, but I'm not sure about the form factor (it was for the Clevo case), pretty sure it won't be compatible thou, Dell usually makes sure of that. heh

    Thanks for the input guys.

I wanted to get the 9300 because of its 17" screen and add the Quadro. It looks like I might have to go for the Clevo 17" with Quadro...Sager most likely, although Alienware has been less expensive than Sager with the Alienware $500 rebate.
