I'm getting my first laptop monday (Dell Vostro 1500 with a 2.2ghz C2D) and I was wondering if anyone has taken the CPU out and put AS5 on it? Has anyone had better temps doing it? Is it a pain?

there is no need of putting AS5 on it as the CPU already comes with thermpaste installed. if u dismantle the CPU.......well then you will have to think about these options

Removing the CPU from the socket voids the warranty.

How does Dell know I removed CPU from the socket? I removed and put it back without any problem. There is no brainer to remove and replace the CPU.

They don't, but that's not the point. A crime is still a crime even if you don't get caught, same thing with this type of warranty voiding. Chances are, they won't ever find out, but if they do, it voids your warranty.

What is your point? I cannot touch the CPU? Why does Artic Silver have to do with removing CPU? LOL

    ???

My Answer: removing the CPU from the socket voids the warranty on the machine.

You can take that and infer whatever you wish.

Don't know about the States, but removing and replacing the CPU would not void warranty here in Holland, regardless of what Dell puts in their terms and conditions.
