Hello, I'm looking to buy a laptop for my folks, but the only catch is that it has be a 15"-15.4" 1280x800 matte screen due to their eyesight. I purchased an HP nx7300 a few years ago, which in retrospect had one of the worst screens I've seen (in terms of viewing angles). I noticed that Dell currently offers a matte WXGA LED screen as an option for the Vostro 1520 / Latitude E6500. Does any user here on this forum have personal experience with this particular screen, particularly in regards to the viewing angles? Thanks.

You may see a slight variance depending on what manufacturer your screen is made by (Dell uses at least 3 suppliers). On my 1440x900 LED, I can say that the screen is excellent. You shouldn't be expecting anything less, especially since this is a Latitude (the Vostro ones may be a bit cheaper).

Horizontal viewing angles are excellent for me, but vertical (especially looking from the bottom) are average, but still very usable and acceptable - it's not like you'll be looking at your screen from a right angle, right?

Correct, I'm not expecting anything great with the vertical viewing angles, given that it's not an IPS LCD or anything, but at least something you don't have to constantly adjust as you're working (as they had to with the HP).

I have a WXGA 1280x800 traditional CCFL display on my Studio 15...the angles aren't bad. Horizontal angles are great, vertical angles vary. For the most part, I can't see well at any angle below 90 degrees, i.e. if the monitor is tilted away from me, but if I look at it from above, there's a good amount of tilt in which I can still see clearly.
