Can anyone tell me why the ATI Mobility Radeon X1400 provides a maximum resolution of 1680 x 1050 on my 15" Inspiron 6400, but only 1440 x 900 on my 17" Inspiron 9400?
I figured the larger screen area of the 9400 would afford me at least the same resolution if not higher! What gives?

The ATI X1400 does provide resolution support upwards to 1920 - your limitation is the actual physical limitation of your screen which is up to 1440. So if you have an external monitor that goes up to 1920, plug into your 9400 and you will see that it will support that res.

You screens have different resolutions. You can't go higher than the native res.
So the 6400 has a high res screen, while the 9400 has a low res screen. A bigger screen does not necessarily mean a higher resolution.
