Inspiron 1720
I talked with the rep and they said it was DDR2, which is correct based on my research here.
I asked them what was it clocked at. they didn't know... So this is where I'll ask the experts here.
Another question. would you recommend 2gb of memory or 3gb? Not 4gb because I'm using Vista Home premium, which does not use 4gb from what I've recalled.
btw, Dual channel capability works when you have 2 symmetrical identical memory sticks with the same amount. But what about 3gb? It will have 2 different memory sticks, one 1gb and the other 2gb. will this affect performance?

Even if it won't work with dual-channel, simply having more RAM will increase the performance. Yes, it is GDDR2, and you should only get 3 GB's of RAM.

ok thanks. well there's still one question unanswered. I still don't know what it's clocked at.

That's the speed of GDDR2 on the 8600M GT.
