I tried to find the answer but didn't get anything clear. I ordered a 9400 with the x1400 and learned afterward that 128 off the 256 RAM was coming from the system RAM.

Now my question is: Can we lower or disable it somehow? The x1400 was the cheapest choice I had when I configured. And the nvidia was about 300$ more.

Oh and while I'm at it, can we mismatch the RAM brackets? I ordered 1GB 667mhz. Would it impact performance to remove one of the 512 and replace it with a 1GB of same speed and timing?
    Thanks

    Thanks deedeeman

And about the memory? Anyone knows if the size can differe but been of same speed/timing would impact speed? The laptop will ship with 2 512MB 667mhz. Would replacing one 512mb with a larger one of same speed/timing cause any speed degradation?

Re: memory - For most applications, I doubt you'll see any real difference if you don't have matched memory. However, I'm sure in apps like Quake 3 and other labor intensive apps you'll see a performance gain if you have matched memory.

Personally, I've always gone with matched memory. In HT processors, it is a requirement to enable hyperthreading. If you have the cash, get two sticks of 1GB.

If possible go with matched memory as if you have 2 simms of the same size and speed the machine supports Dual channel ram so you should see a small performance boost.

No, you can't disable the 128 MB the x1400 might take from memory. It only does when it needs it so you dont need to worry about it.
