    Can a dell lcd screen work in non-dell laptops, or do they use a non-standard connection?

    They should, after market screens are generic for the most part.

    Dell doesn't make their own LCD screens. The screens themselves are made by Samsung, Quanta, LG Phillips, and so on. I'd say they generally aren't terribly standardized, but there are probably quite a few cases where displays made for one machine will fit in another.
