Question about Dell policy on replacements

    Hello all,

I am wondering the policy regarding Dell's replacement policy. I originally ordered my first XPS 1530 back in December 28, and now, as of January 27, am anticipating the arrival of a third replacement unit.

As far as replacements goes, I thought the policy from Dell was to only allow such transactions within the first 21 days of the purchase invoice (January 4 2008 in my case)?

The reason for my asking is, I put in the order for the replacement on January 23rd or 24th (can't really remember), and the order is already due to arrive at my home tomorrow! This seems very fast for Dell, and makes me wonder if I am actually receiving a refurbished unit? I also notice a slight difference in how the order shows up on my account summary. The quantities are all negatives (i.e. the order total is showing as a negative value, where as with the second unit, this did not happen).

I am sure I am just being paranoid, but it just seems way too fast to place, build, box and ship an order in 4 days. I tried to see if I could find my service tag but it only shows my most recent one (2nd unit).

Has anyone ever had a replacement sent with the same service tag? It seems a possibility that Dell would replace units based off the Tag due to part numbers remaining the same and thus causing less internal confusion, but at the same time, would completely ruin the entire reason I placed the order for the replacement (LCD panel).

Sorry for the long post. Thanks for any input!

Replacement units can be new or refurbished. This is within Dell's warranty policy.

No two units have the same service tag. It is possible that you are getting a refurb as the Dell policy states that this will occur.

The instances I know of that the system was a new one outside the regulated period are those that the customer specifically made known that they expect a new replacement to be sent and not a refurb.

Good luck and the only thing you can do is wait. Personally, I don't think M1530 refurbs are available as of yet but we will see.

Seems like I'll be getting a refurb then. I don't see how they could have shipped so fast otherwise. I don't really care as long as it doesn't have blemishes on it. Dell's QC seems to be pretty lenient...

They are. They just became available a few days ago.

Unfortunately, I'd be willing to bet any refurbished units will have the ol' Samsung LCD

Its always best to just relax and wait until it arrives. You can always call Dell tomorrow and get them to tell you the service tag number. From there go to the Dell warranty page, eneter the number and click on 'original configuration'. It will tell you everything you need to know.

Sometimes a refurb could actually be a better unit then a brand new one having under gone additional round/s of testing. I have order 2 refurb Inspiron E1705 for others and they have had no problems in nearly 2 years.
