On Dell's Order Status page, there is Kitting, Build, Testing, and Boxing under "In Production". How does Dell update this page? Like, when Kitting is done, do they put a check there and then go on to Build? And then when Build is done do they put a check there and go on to Testing? And then when that is done do they put a check there and go on to Boxing? Or do they wait till ALL of them are done, and then put checks there all at once. I know this is hard to understand, but I didn't know how to explain it myself. So I guess my question is, do they update each part one by one, or do they just do it all together when its all completed?

From what I've seen, it's updated all at once. If you phone in, they will be able to tell you what stage your order is at in regards to Kitting, testing, boxing etc.

Maybe the US site is different, but on the Canadian site, I think it's updated all at once.

The US site is different, if what you say is true. The laptop I ordered a few days ago is currently looking like this:

[IMG] Order Processing: Wednesday, June 07, 2006
    [IMG] Pre-production: Wednesday, June 07, 2006
In Production: Wednesday, June 07, 2006
    [IMG] Kitting
    [IMG] Build
    Testing
    Boxing
Shipping Prep: Thursday, June 15, 2006
Estimated Ship Date: Thursday, June 15, 2006

Normally they check each one. There are things that can hold up your production phase - i.e. shortage of parts, payment option wasn't approved etc. If it hasn't changed status by monday, then you'll probably want to call dell.

That's weird, I ordered the same day as redglare and my estimated shipping date is also June 15, 2006. However my laptop is "In Production" but has not gone through Kitting or anything after that.

redglare, which model laptop did you order?

I don't think there are any payment problems, because when Dell sent me the Order Acknowledgement and Order Confirmation, they said that the order would not go into production till the payment was authorized. And the order has gone into production, it just hasn't started the Kitting.

So I don't know what the problem is...

There is one common problem if you use ATM/Debit cards for a credit card - they have a certain limit that you can charge a day, and most users don't realize this. Last year Dell would call and tell you that you needed to contact your bank to authorize the purchase, but I don't know if they still do or not.

Man I LOVE Dell Customer Support. Despite what everyone else says, Dell really does have great customer support. I spoke to a Dell Rep about the problem above, and he checked to see that my payment was properly authorized and that were no problems. Furthermore, he gave me free business next day shipping. I love these Indians!

Okay I just checked my order status again and the Kitting is done. Now it is in the build stage. I spoke to a Dell rep just an hour ago, and he told me that the motherboard was delayed. If that was the case, how did they finish the kitting? Do you think they used a used, refurbished motherboard? Man, stuff like this really worries me.

AbN610, you look like you are getting the e1705 and I am getting the e1505 so that may be why mine is ahead in the process, which is actually done the testing phase now. Just a thought.

Have any one happen this, I made my order on June 6th by that night it was aproved, the 7th started on production at this time the amount of money for the laptop was on a hold at my bank on 8th went into boxing and I heard it takes about 3 days I am fine with that, so today I checked my account and the hold for the amount for the laptop that is to be taken out by Dell is no more at my bank and Dell has not taken the money out, I talked to Dell they said everything was still fine and that they take the money out when they shipped the unit, called my bank to make sure and they say that when there is hold for more than three days it gets taken off like the money is avilable and the money can still be taken out.
I just dont want to have to take longer on getting the laptop since I will be going on a 6 hrs trip with the family on the 19th, so has anybody have done this where the hold on the money got taken off before Dell takes it and not have any problems?
My ship day is not until the 14th if that helps, just dont want to deal with credit card problems later?

I think that is normal. When I bought mine, the amount was on hold in my checking account, but then it reappeared after so many days. As long as you have the money in your account when your laptop is shipped, you'll be fine.

Dell doesn't charge until your unit is shipped.

Looks like everything is going normal for me, I am currently in the "Testing" stage.

BTW, does anyone know if SATURDAY is considered a business day for Dell. Do the people at Dell work on Saturday? The reason I'm asking is because I want to know if they will do the "Testing" part of my order tomorrow. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
