So I had to send my E1405 back for service since I was having issues with it. Dell CS was very nice and said that they could either send me a new HD (that was the issue they thought) or a new computer. I opted for the new computer since it was only 2 weeks old.

Anyway, when I look at the order details it states:

100GB 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive for Inspiron 6400/E1505 Customer Installed

My other E1405 had a 100GB 5400RPM. I assume that they are going to send me this one b/c it doesn't look like they ahve 100GB 5400RPM HDs anymore (none listed on their website). The couple questions I had were:

Does it matter that it says for Inspiron E1505 when I have a E1405? I assume that they use the same HD. Also, what does customer installed mean? Does that mean that I need to install it myself? Dell Tech Support told me that it's easy to install it, but was curious as to why the HD is listed like this.

    Thanks

yep :] E1405/E1505/E1705/B130/M1210/XPS all uses the same 2.5 notebook Sata style hd. If your lucky you might get a 7,200 RPM but most likely a 5,400 RPM :D!

Well if that’s what it says... 100GB 7200, that’s what you might get with your new one! A 7200RPM drive runs slightly warmer, but is definitely faster. Does cut your battery short a few minutes though. No big deal though... ;)
