I was reading the reviews for both the D531 and D630. Is the build quality, LCD screens and the outer casing the same for all the Latitudes, D530, D531, D630, D830?
The D530 and D531 look to be some really nice laptops and priced right minus the 3 year warranty you get with the D630 and D830.

That's not exactly very helpful. The question was posed with respect to Dell systems.
The 5 series of Latitudes are the "budget" models. Check the specs. If you're not going to be pushing the system to the limits anyway, they should more than suffice.
However, the D-series lats are being phased out this year, EOL. They will be replaced with the new E-series (which look a helluva lot slicker too.) If you're not in a rush, you may want to hold out for those. (Or hold out for their release... so you can pick up last gen at much better prices.)

@Rodknee: yes they have the same build quality but not exactly the same options. Main things you may want to consider when making your choice:
- D530 + D531 are compatible with D/Port but not with D/Dock
- D531 is based on AMD --> heats a bit more and makes your battery last a bit shorter
- D530 + D531 don't have the option of 9 cell batteries. Check if that is important for you.
- D530 is the only non wide screen. That can be important in your choice too. -

Commander Wolf can i haz broadwell?
The build quality and material should be the same across all members of the Latitude D-Series: an alloy lid and base with a plastic bezel and palmrest. The D530 may be an exception as it uses an older chassis (probably that of the D800 and D810). The screens are dissimilar in that they are of different sizes and ratios across the various members of the D-Series. I think screen quality will also vary between different screens of the same size, but it should not be by too much.

When you say "Even better advice --Buy this" without giving any line of reasoning as to why, you're not benefitting the original poster at all. If a post offers no useful advice, why post at all?
Your post also isn't relevant to the meat of the original question.
To the OP: One other note not mentioned: the D530/D531 do not have TrackPoint pointing sticks, even as a build-to-order option. If this is an important feature to you (it is to me, I won't buy an IBM-compatible laptop without it) then you should look towards the D630.
What tasks are you looking to use the laptop for?
