No, If you don't have a 802.11n router, then it will be pretty much a waste of money.

Well, the 7xxx series of Intel processors are advertised to also provide more power saving which should allow your laptop to run longer on battery. The Wireless-N cards are probably not necessary right now as it doesn't look like it will become mainstream anytime soon. Maybe in a few years it might but by then there will probably be new wireless technology.

so should I get the 1390 card or something else? and if you didnt know the processor question was a separate question, I wanted to know if the 5470 processor would be sufficient for me considering I dotn play games or anything.

I read something about the Dell wireless cards not working with Linux operating systems but I'm not 100% sure on that. However, you could go with the Intel 3945 as it comes with 802.11a as well. But most places use 802.11b/g.

Yeah get the 1390. Ive had it and replaced my intel 3945 for it for OSX/linux support.

Do you do a lot of video editing?

Otherwise the 5470 is perfect for normal stuff

Or, according to caveman017, the Intel one doesn't support OSX/Linux but the Dell one does. And I'm sure he knows his stuff as he has used it before. Sorry for my misinformation.

The intel one probably works with Linux, but I know if you plan on installing OSx86 on it, it won't work, without a lot of hacking at least.

No sense in spending another 5-7% more for just another wireless card, when the basic one does the same things

Intel 3945 works beautifully under linux, while configuring the del 1390 ( broadcom) is a b-yotch. I got the intel3945 running within 5 minutes under Gentoo Linux.

Okay, so the Intel cards work on Linux but not that well on OSX?
