    Hi guys I'm new here and I hope you can help me out. I was thinking about getting the 1720, I like dell and the new laptop. I am a gamer at heart and a pc tech or soon to be one. I need a new laptop for study work and play. I like everything in the new 1720 but the shared ram. I was wondering is it possible to buy the laptop with say 1 gig shared, buy 2 gigs deadicated ram and upgrade.

    Purchase the top end dedicated video cards when you build your 1720 and
    you won't "share" memory with video.
    (Right now, for the 1720, it's the 256MB Nvidia 8600M GT)

    You can/should buy the lowest offered ram option (usually 1GB for 1720) from Dell and upgrade via third party vendor.

    @einhander:

    Option for the 1720? Yes. Option for someone who wants to have decent gaming capabilities? Not so much.

    I'll definitely echo netwerkz101, however, and say get as little RAM as you can and then upgrade yourself.

    why upgrade via third party when you can have their upgrade? i think you can get discounts if you get it from DELL.

    @kamote:

    True, but normally the price even with the discounts is more than the price through third party resellers (not always, granted, but frequently).
