I received my M1530 with Vista ultimate last Friday. So far the computer is running great. However, I do have a couple of items regarding Vista Ultimate (32bit) I was hoping one of the many knowledgable people here could assist me with.
1) The screen saver doesn't appear to be working, it is set to come on after 5 minutes of inactivity. However nothing happens, its as though I didn't even set it up. I've gone back and verified the settings and it shows what I've selected.
2) On IE7, I set up under the internet options to open a new tab with the home page. However, when I open a new tab, it still brings up a blank page. Yet it shows under option that tabs are to be opened with my home page.
3) Could these issues be because I have not registered Vista yet? I don't have a MSN Hotmail, MSN Messenger, or Passport account (don't really want one) which is why. Is there another way around registering the OS?
Thanks to any and all assistance offered.

1)Check your power settings, that's the only other setting I would think would affect your screen saver.
2)I played around with this and got it to work. First when you hit the New Tab do you get the screen about:Tabs ? If so you need to check the box, Don't show this page again and hit close. Now when you hit the New Tab button your home page should appear.
3)Nope none of these will affect the way your OS works. -

Do you have anything running in the background that might cause the screensaver not to come on? scans etc
Registration is optional. -
Do you have a mouse plugged in? Do you have windows media player open?
-
Thanks for all the input.
I'll check the power settings. Although the laptop was connected with a power cord.
As far as background stuff open that might not allow the screensaver to come on, just the normal sys tray stuff. No media player or any other programs. As for a mouse, I'm using a Microsoft Wireless Notebook Mouse 4000.
BTW, what does registering Vista get you anyway? -
Registering...hmm I don't know. I never do it. But activation is important since you can get updates that might fix some bugs on Vista. Say, does your Vista come with Service Pack 1?

Its the mouse causing the problem,
I've been doing some googling.

So basically, goto windows update, let it check for updates, then install 'Microsoft HID Non-User Input Data Filter.' under optional updates. -

Cool glad it worked.
SP1 is a service pack that you need to download it'll have fixes in it like XP SP2/3 its the same thing. Goto Windows update and keep updating until it shows then download it.
