My Vostro won't resume after i closed the lid.

    I set it stand-by

sometimes it does and sometimes doesn't resume to window.

    Windows XP
    8600M GT

I think it might be video card probs

Nope, its just a common Windows XP issue with this laptop. Try reinstalling the software for your video card.

If this link doesn't work then you can go to the Dell Driver Page and search for the Vostro 1500. The 1500 has a Windows XP install option and so the 1500 driver page has the Windows XP driver for the Nvidia chipset.

If it doesnt fix the issue then you should call for tech support if your laptop is still under warranty and they can walk you through other options.
