Hey, I saw that Dell has the special for up to 20% off notebooks that ends May 12. I was wondering if you think this is a good deal, or if I should wait for Dothan to be released to possibly drive down prices. In particular, I'm looking at getting an inspiron 8600 for about $2100 after the discount (128 MB video card, 60gig 7200rpm hard drive, 1.7 ghz p-m, 512 mb ram). Do you think I can possibly get this at a lower price after Dothan is introduced on Monday, and if so how long do you think it'll take prices to drop after Dothan is released?

Price drop is probably only $100-200 or so for the manufacturer, this being passed on to you the consumer is not very likely.

The performance difference is probably not going to be that great I don't think. I think where the biggest improvement will be in the lower speed setting. 2MB cache is going to make a 600Mhz processor very happy.

Just wait until Monday, Intel should have some numbers showing how well the new chips perform. I could be completely wrong and they have 3x the performance, no one knows really.
