I'm going to be attending college in the fall, and I was just wondering if the m1530 would be good for gaming and performance in multimedia tasks? Also, I don't know a whole lot about computers, in terms of changing settings and stuff. Is it necessary to make a lot of changes for vista to function properly?

Get it, you won't regret it.

Very fast and powerful, handles most modern games with ease and multitasks very well. Looks stlyish and can be configured to your needs.

You can tweak Vista to make it faster, but it does actually work :)

After reading all these vista horror stories, I almost decided on getting a mac. I'm just not to savvy on being able to really know how to make all these changes and stuff. I usually just buy the comp, and then uninstall all the programs I don't need. Is that enough to have great performance?

as craig said, it will handle games and multimedia well. Its been designed to do that from the high res screen to the fastest GPU available in its form factor.

In terms of the configuration, as a newbie, you may be tempted to go overboard. The fastest is not always the best unless you know you *need* it.

    My recommendation:
    Processor - Core 2 Duo T7250
    RAM - 2GB
    GPU: 8600M GT

no, but you need to look at the the big picture....

vista works and windows compatible programs are still the best way to go and the most advanced in most cases

macs are great, but have limited software, depending on what your uses are

i've since reconsidered, I don't run vista, and have never used it, so I just went by what i've read on some forums.

Save yourself a few hundred dollars and go for the Dell. If you get one that isn't screwed up by Dell, you won't regret it.

    There's nothing wrong with a Mac -- I'm not a PC zealot.

But I also think the problems with Vista are overblown these days. Have it on 2 systems, and it works fine on both.

But here's the decider for me -- I bought this xps 1530 for about $1100 on the delloutlet.com site. T7500, 8600GT, 3GB. It completely annihilates any Mac system at that price. I'd be spending north of $2000 to get the same performance on a Mac.

And I get to play games on it that will never make the Mac, so I get that added bonus, too. Easy call for me.
