How bad is it out of the box?

Can i do a clean install with the cds they include or do i need a new copy of Windows Vista?

This has been answered in other threads. There is no bloatware. The only thing I uninstalled when I got mine was the McAfee trial.

Dell includes an OS reinstallation DVD and a seperate driver and software DVD. When I decided to put a larger drive in mine, I used this plus the Media Direct CD to do a clean install and it installed nothing but the OS.

By the way, if you plan on using Media Direct, read the installation instructions included before you install or reinstall Vista or whatever OS you're going to use.

They supply you with a full Vista disk.

All you do is inserted it, boot from the disk, install full version of Vista and it deletes all the bloatware and you are now left with a new fresh complete version.

Dell disks allow this for some reason...

You will prob need to use the system disk to reinstall hardware drivers such as bluetooth/coundblaster etc....

Which bloatware does it delete? I would like to try to remove myself rather than do a full reinstall even if it's not 100%...

Try the PC Decrapifier. http://pcdecrapifier.com/ It removes many programs automatically-you get to choose what it removes from a list before you start it. I used it before and it works great. :)

If you'd rather clean your machine than do a fresh, clean install, Decrapifier is a good start as booboo suggested. But you should also run CCleaner - carefully.

You'll probably also need to stop unneeded startup programs, and processes from running in the background. If Vista is the same as XP (am not sure), msconfig for Startup programs; services.msc for processes. Also this might help. "Latest Guides" lower left corner of the page.
