I'm gonna order a m1330 with only 2gb of memory. Should I be able to upgrade the memory with a 2gb stick or I have to use a 1gb stick? Is there an extra slot for mem upgrade or i'll have to replace the existing one? Thank you

onthe m1330, there r 2 ram slots, if u order with 2 gb of ram, its gonna come with 2x1024mb ram so try to get it with 3 gb if u can, that way just buy one 2 gb ram stick and replace it with the 1gb stick .

Hmm .. if you plan to make it to 4GB, you need to get 2 2GB sticks. Dell takes $100 more for the 4 GB upgrade from 2GB as far as i know.

If you get the RAM from some local vendor or a store pickup, you save the shipping. If your RAM turns out to be defective, you will have a tough time. Paying for the shipping to get it changed.

    Do keep that in mind..

The money you'll spend on going from 2 to 3 GB is what it will cost you to buy the entire 4 GB outright, so keep it at 2, or even 1 GB, if cheaper, and then buy 4 GB of Crucial or other quality RAM.

Just be sure to hold on to the old RAM, because Dell insists on the original factory RAM if you need to send it in for service.

If Dell only charges up to $100 to go from 2 to 4 GB, it might be worth your while just to have Dell do it and not deal with rebates, etc. to get 4 GB elsewhere for $60. Depends on your preference.

You will want to get a total of 4GB into your system in order to take advantage of dual channel. If you put it 3GB with 1 1GB and 1 2GB DIMM, then you will only be on asymetric dual channel, which means only 2GB of ram will be running on dual channel.
