Hey guys, i recently ordered a new laptop (M1330), and i had a quick question about warranty status.

I purchased this laptop from a reputable person i can trust who bought it from a dell outlet. now the thing is, when i get it how do i transfer the warranty?

i searched already and i found a link somebody (transfer of ownership) but it says it is for United States only. this laptop is coming from the United States but i am in Canada (Toronto). how do i transfer the warranty and purchase an extended warranty (accidental, etc).

    Thanks.

You need to do an international tag transfer. This process can take up to 21 business days or longer to complete.

First you need to verify if the system you purchased is sold in Canada (and as far as I know, the m1330 is). Second, you have to make sure that all of the systems' components are in export compliance with Canada. The best way to check this is to see if the same options are configurable on the Dell Canada website. If these are all okay, the tag transfer process should be good to go.

    Regarding the Warranty Extension:

You will need to wait for the system service to tag to switch over to Dell Canada (which occurs simultaneously with the ownership transfer). Once this occurs, you can call Dell Canada's extended warranties department and extend your warranty. Generally speaking, the complete care warranty cannot be added if the system is outside of its 21/30 day period (although some CSRs can help you get around this). Be aware that depending on the age of the systems and its service call history, the extended warranties can be ridiculously expensive. I was once quoted about 500 USD for a 3 year extension on a 1.5 year old Inspiron 8500. Note that if the seller had the standard return to depot warranty, you may need to upgrade to the onsite warranty (since I am not sure if there is return to depot service in Canada). Last comment: if the original warranty of the seller is already expired, expect to pay a $100 penalty to Dell inorder to extend the warranty.

    Good Luck!
