I have a problem with booting from Media Direct Repair Utility CD.
By following SoutherGirl's reinstallation guide, I did a clean reinstallation but kept the 40MB Media Direct partition. After I finished installing WinXP MCE, I downloaded the Media Direct Repair Utility from from Dell site, then I burned the Media Direct Repair Utility file R121517 to a CD with Nero, put it into the DVD drive, reboot computer and hit F12, selected CD/DVD and pressed Enter....nothing happened, the laptop didn't boot from CD and went straight to desktop.
Next, I extracted all the files from the downloaded Media Direct Repair Utility file R121517 and burned them to a CD, put it in the DVD drive, reboot and hit F12, selected CD/DVD and pressed Enter, again nothing happened, and it boot straight to desktop just like before.
Why didn't it boot from the DVD drive? Did I burn the CD incorrectly? Anyone?

With Nero did you select "Record Image" when you burned the CD? Just dragging the ISO file (or the extracted files) and burning a data disk won't work as you don't get the boot sector.

ISORecorder V2 for XP SP2 can be used if you like or can't get Nero to cooperate.... Although it sounds like davejohn is heading you in the right direction.

Thanks, guys! I was able to burn the CD successfully!
