I just recieved my 1420.
One question I have is as follows: When I open my computer, it lists the hard drives as..
1. 2-10GB - (1) Recovery D: 5.(something)GB free of 9.99GB total
2. 80GB - OS C: 86(ish)GB free of 99.2GB total
The computer was to come with a 120GB hard drive. My question is this.. first off, why is the second hard drive listed as 80GB (the name, not the actual info underneath). Secondly, if the size is the total, it still doesn't equal 120GB - why?
Thirdly, why is so much memory used already, and the fourth question, when the Dell Tune Up program ran, I noticed it said something like 107 GB free -- that makes no sense given the numbers given in my computer - why?
In the BIOS it IS listed as 120 GB, i'm not sure if that changes anything. If you could answer all my questions it would be very much appreciated.
Thank you

Search.
Been discussed before, even last night.
GB are measured in 1000 bytes, not 1024 bytes like they should be. -
Those aren't different hard drives, they're partitions (parts of) the same hard drive.

one is for os and stuff other one is recovery -
Thank you for the quick responses.
One question that I have which I can't seem to get asnwered is this:
In Vista, when you go into 'Computer' it seems to have a 'name' for the drive, above (in blue) the picture of the drive.
Like I said before, it's something like this..
2-10GB (1)-----------------------------------------------
Recovery D:
5.5 free of 9
80GB (1)---------------------------------------------------
OS C:
85 free of 99.2
The bolded is what I have a question about. I understand that it counts bytes differently, thus the difference in size - but that's below. But why has (Vista?) or the drive listed 80GB above the drive - possibly a name or something. That's what i'm wondering. -
By name do you mean one is called OS and one is called Recovery? If that's what you meant then the "Recovery" one is a part of the hard drive that contains files needed to "recover" the main drive (named "OS") where Vista is when broken. I'm not sure exactly what you meant, the question was a bit confusing.
