I've placed an order for a Studio 17, then due to my ever fickle mind, decided to settle for a M4400 and so i immediately submitted a cancellation for the Stuido 17 before it was shipped.

now, while my M4400 is being built, i get this notice that my Studio 17 that i thought was cancelled was shipped.

    incredible speed...
    ordered 9/4
    cancelled 9/7
    shipped 9/10
    original ship was 9/19...

so i guess i can re-send it back with to get refund... but now i'm kinda curious...

can i open it and take a look before i send it back and still be clear of the 15% restock fee?

i checked the dell site, their restock fee policy is that they "may" charge... but no info as to what conditions will trigger the restock fee.

should i give into my curiosity and check it out? or should i just send it back and wait patiently for the M4400?

I would refuse the package all together.

As long as you have documentation from Dell that you demanded a cancel, and they said it would be canceled....you can get it returned no problem.

Cancellations on orders show up within minutes on their website, no excuse for them.
