Hi, I have had my Dell XPS M140 for a year now.

Its awesome. It is my first computer, and it is great. I love this lap top.

I had a few questions on the care of it though.

Is it okay to always have the lap top on, or should I turn it off when I am not using it (like at night or during the day). Should i put it on standby during the night?

Is it okay to have the laptop plugged in all the time. I always have my laptop plugged in. I don't pay for electricity, so that is not a problem. The laptop is always plugged into my surge protector.

    Thanks..

    any advice will help.

Shut down or put it to standby mode if you are not using it for several hours (like overnight). Heating is an issue with notebooks, therefore keeping it ON needlessly won’t do you any good. It will only stress out the internal components.

AFAIK keeping it plugged in all the time is OK.

Keeping it plugged in causes stress on your battery. As long as I've already saved my work, and am only websurfing and not doing anything important, then I keep the AC adapter in but remove the battery.

Please check out Chrisyano's battery guide for questions about power and your battery.

It is best to turn your laptop off or put it in standbuy when you are not going to use it for a while. It saves wear in tear both with the head and with the moving parts.
