It wasn't until i started really using my computer and listening to music in my room that i realized not buying the remote with my e1505 was a big mistake. It's like one of those old fashoined tv's that you need to get up to change the channel. I'm looking for a remote control so i can change my music and browse stuff at the comfort of my bed. How do theese remote controls work? does it have some sort of reciever that plugs into a usb port? Could someone please recommend me some remotes, thank you very much notebook reviewers.

I would check Dell's site for a remote or just google in your question, granted you have XP MCE. If you have MCE, you'll have no problem with the USB reciever/remote, however, if you do not have MCE, it'll be a lot trickier in getting the remote to work.

I have MCE, but is there a variety of remotes avalable for purchase? or will only something like http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16880100851
be the only option. i also saw there was a mouse http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/products/details/US/EN,CRID=2135,CONTENTID=9340#Specifications
how well does that work? and it says it can reach 10 feet, but is that true?

also, this remote can be used to control itunes right? will it serve the same function as the buttons on the front of my computer?

Yup, I have that Logitech MediaPlay mouse for my desktop and it's really great. There is a slight learning curve though as guests on my computer often call it "jumpy" -- no worries though, as you will get used to it, as I have. It comes with software so you can set it to launch iTunes specifically. As for all the other media buttons, they work on any media program that is "selected" (not minimized?). It comes with a bluetooth adaptor and dongle (that's really only useful as an alternative for having to plug it in in the back of desktops) and has a fairly good range (didn't measure, but should be about 8-9 feet). Price should be decent as I got it for $17 CDN. Hope that helps.

that sounds good, but what about the remote? Will it work for the media buttons on itunes, and what other functions does it have. Also can i program it to do stuff like shut off my computer? So yeah, if the mouse performs the same function as the remote, plus it can move the pointer from long distance, then i will go with the mouse. It just seems like it is a little excessive to use the mouse as a remote when i can get a real remote.

look at the logitech s510 combo, about $45 after rebate, comes with nice keyboard mouse and remote control. AS the other guy mentioned, the logitech remote has a learning curve but its fine. Controls itunes and wm10 no problem, even when minimized.

that actually does look like a good deal. I can get it for $40 at buy.com, it looks like it will fit my needs and offer a little more comfort all around. does anyone object or have any last words? i think i'll order it tommorow unless i find something better.
