I received a refurb studio 1555 last Monday (10/29) from Dell Outlet (there was a coupon code on SlickDeals) and by Sunday it was done. There were problems with the ac adapter/adapter connector/motherboard. The Dell Tech came out today and the motherboard fried again. The tech put Tech Services on the phone and I told them I didn't want to sent it to be repaired since it will be in transit longer than I physically had it in my possession. I asked for an exchange or refund and was told I would be given an exchange refurb (Studio 1558).

I was wondering how long the turn around generally is and what would be the best way of ensuring that I can get the best possible replacement.

    Thanks in advance.

Probably two to three weeks. Make sure they confirm the specs of the replacement with you once it's picked so that they're comparable to the 1555 you sent in. The process of finding an available replacement (or really just waiting for one to become available) can take a week or two minimum. Shipping varies depending the warranty it's covered under, so it could be anything from next-day to a week.

Thanks. I was told by the tech rep that I would have it in 7-10 days (the only way I could assume that would be possible was since it was an outlet refurb they would just pull a similar model off the shelf and send that out). But that seemed too quick.

I did it as part of completecare system exchange, so the inventory may have been different. outlet exchange is probably faster, although at least a couple days to get approval and find a system with similar specs. The quoted time may not be too far off the mark

If they give you a refurbished exchange, i've seen it as fast as next day. If they're giving you a new build, i've seen it as slow as two weeks max and one week minimum. I've been through it all. It's usually the build time that is slow, but the usually next day ship it as soon as it is done.

It was a refurbished exchange. The tech was at my house on Tuesday and I had my replacement system on Friday morning. I was surprised with how quickly I received it. Also happy with the new system as its an upgrade and cosmetically the 1558's black chainlink looks much better than the 1555's.

    ordered: Studio 1555 Core 2 Duo T6400@2Ghz/4GB of DDR2 @ 800mhz/ 320GB HD @ 5400/Vista Basic
